Speedo gear question

I just got my 3.73 gears installed, and I am trying to figure out if I put the right speedo gear in. The guy at the speed shop sold me a red ford gear, but it seems to be a little off. Now I am using a chart to check if I put the proper gear in, but the spread sheet says that red is a 21 teeth and black is 20 teeth. I just did the install this weekend and when I counted the teeth on the red gear I thought I counted 20. Can anyone confirm that red has 20 teeth. Or did I count wrong.

Also, when I rebuilt my t-5 I used different year parts in it. I have an 89 so the chart says I should have a 7 teeth drive gear, but I am not sure if that is what I have. I do remember that the drive gear was yellow. Does anyone know what color the drive gear is for 7 teeth gear? They changed the drive gear in 90 to an 8 teeth drive gear, does anyone know that color, or did the color stay the same between the years?

i think you have it right if i understand you. If you have a 7 tooth drive gear(which 89 t5's have) you do need the red 21 tooth gear.

www.hanlonmotorsports.com Look around there a little and you'll figure it out. I don't remember off the top of my head, but I think the 6-tooth drive gear is black and the 7-tooth is yellow. Use the speedo gear calculator near the bottom left of the main page and it'll tell you combos for both.
