Speedometer cable problems

I have been reading your forum for several months and I find the knowledge and helpfulness to be first rate. I am not mechanical so please bear with me. I have replaced my speedo cable including the gear at the end of the cable three times in three years and I am getting frustrated... I have greased it with lithium grease each time and it runs fine for awhile and then makes noise and then quits altogether. Is there any solution?? Please help.

Yes, you are using the wrong lube. You need to locate "speedometer cable lube" sold in a tube, it is actually graphite.
