Speedometer Cable Question

I am about to install a new speedo cable in my 65. Does anyone know how much of the graphite speedometer cable lubricant I should use and the best method for applying it?

Do I need to apply lubricant to a new cable? I was told that I did, but I would think that it doesn't need it. Does anyone know?

From what i've heard if you're replacing and the housing (the black rubber part around the metal insert) then it should come pre-lubricated.
However, i have had one of those and it ended up breaking only 2 months after. It looked like a lack of lubrication. So i'm not sure

I decided to lube it up just in case. I removed the cable from the black protective sleeve. It appeared to have a small amount of oil/grease on it. I went ahead and used a small tube of lubricant that a buddy of mine had that came with a new speedometer cable that he bought. It came with 2 tubes and he only used one. My thought is that maybe a new cable does need to be lubed.

it sure wouldn't hurt. i would have done the same thing.
