I removed the instrument cluster from my 1986 GT a while back and thought I reconnected the speedometer cable. It stopped working and when I pulled the panel back it was disconnected. Now I just can’t seem to get it firmly connected- question: does it just push on or does the tab have to be squeezed while pushing it on? Problem is compounded by not much space and big hands.

The keyway on the cable end needs to match the keyway inside the speedo.
So, you may need to spin it a little bit to get it to [seat] and fully lock into the detent.
