Like most, I had a bouncing speedometer. After taking out the cluster to replace the voltage regulator I decided it was a good time to fix that problem also.

Here is what I have-
100% bone stock 92 GT with a five speed. 97k miles on it.

Here is what I have done so far-
-I replaced the cable with the unit from LRS. I "mildly" covered the bottom half of the cable with DRY powered graphite. Drove it, and the bouncing was worse than before plus the speed was off by about 30mph.
-I added more graphite, worse again.
-I ran the original cable through the LRS housing but they really weren't the same size. I ran it through there with White lithium grease and the speedometer didn't move at all. I suspect because the cable wasn't turning due the tight fit in the LRS housing.
-I pulled down the VSS to see the gear and it's the black version and appeared to be in fine shape.

I am 90% sure I was getting the cable all the way in at the speedometer and I'm 60% sure I was getting the bottom end all the way in. Also, you can hear the speedometer with it's little ting ting...

Blue Oval Industries offers a "newish" speedometer for $160, is it time to go that route?

Update:

I purchased the Blue Oval Industries speedo and replaced it this morning. It works great now. The needle looks a little nervous, but I'll give the cable some time to coat itself real good and see what happens.

Money spent-
$5 lube
$20 cable
$155 speedo

MINUS whatever I get off ebay for the old speedo. Its probably worth a rebuild to someone who knows how.
