Speedometer has mind of it's own, needle jumping....

Hey guys, the car in question is a 91 model 5.0, automatic with 90,000 original miles, the speedo needle jumps all over the place starting about 30-40 mph and pegs out when you get good speed going, where would you most likely start, cable, speed sensor on end of cable, possibly the speedo itself??

mine jumps around until i get to about 25 mph. but that doesnt bother me because im rarely going that slow

Mine used to do that too. I dont have that problem anymore, as my cable is know completley melted through, my needle now doesnt move one bit .

Pull out the cable, see how the teeth look. Then check on replacing the cable, and maybe the gear. If it is the gear inside the tranny, you have to pull the tranny apart.
