I am restoring a 1988 gt convertible. I would like to have the 140mph speedometer--currently it has an 85mph speedometer. There are many "face kits" to change the face of the speedometer and they all are 140mph faces. What do I have to do to make the gears correct in my speedometer to make it a 140 mph gauge? Or, if that is impossible, where can I purchase a 140mph speedometer? Thanks

I'd say it's possible for you to change the face of your speedo, then change the combination of speedometer drive and driven gears to make it read correctly, but highly improbable. You're talking about making a 40% change in calibration. I doubt you would even get it close to being accurate.

Just get a 140 mph speedo to replace your 85 mph one -- $160 from LMR, (including $20 core charge) or take your chances with eBay for a used one.
