Spindles

Is there anywhere you can get new spindles for the classic stangs? I see plenty for mustang II suspension, and it's not much younger than the 70-73 spindles I want, but I can't find anything for those.

Can a machinist build up the surface of a spindle and re-machine to factory (new) spec? Is this relatively expensive or cheap? Is there usually any need to have this done? (assuming it is possible)

A junkyard is your best bet. This would be a great time to get a Granada spindle and add disc brakes. If you're looking to stay all original, you might be able to find a Mustang in a junkyard where you are. They are completely picked clean and gone here in Minnesota.

This site has great info regarding the swap. There are quite a few cars that are sources for the parts. I got everything for $100 from a '77 Monarch. It works great! I did buy new loaded calipers and a rebuilt master cylinder, but the parts are cheap. I think the MC was $18. Hard to beat.

Regarding repair.. anything can be done, but I'm thinking very spendy unless you happen to have a connection.

i've got a whole front suspension for a '67 cougar that should fit up nicely. everything is is nice shape.

i put a rod & custom mustang II front suspension in it and have no need for the parts anymore.

i'd be happy to cut you a deal on it.

Thanks for the info hack. I want 71-73 spindles because I hear they are stronger again than the 69 spindles (that will be stock on my car when I get it), and I would like to go to a Baer disc setup, so have no real need to go to a granada setup.

Thanks for the offer smokem, I have nothing real just yet, I'm still just working out the theory of it all before I dive in. Well before I get enough money to dive in anyways.

If the spindles can be built up I will most likely do it if necessary, as I don't think I'll have to have it done twice in my lifetime, even so, it's still only twice. I must ring a machine shop one day.
