With that limited of a description.. I'm guessing a small exhaust leak. Have you done any exhaust mods?

Wouldn't an exhaust leak throw an engine code? Why I'm asking is that I 'think' (agreed...tough to tell from limited description) I have a similar sound which to my ears sounds like an exhaust leak; I've had no work done on the car though and it only has 3K miles on it. ???

Not necessarily. The leak would have to be pretty big, and before the Cats to throw a code.

To find/confirm a leak I usually toss a car up on a lift, wait for it to cool, start her up, get some one to cover the tail pipes (enough to cause back pressure), and follow the pipes back to the manifolds feeling/looking for leaks.

when I accelerate the engine make a loud and distinct "spit". It throws p171 and p174 (too lean) codes.

I didnt want to post that before anyone answered. I thought maybe the exhaust too, might have been doing it. I didnt wwant to say so before anyone responded. I just had catbacks put on. Bassanis. one busted and was replaced with a magnaflow.

my sct wouldnt datalog. Ive had several people helpl through emails I finally took it to the shop in paris last weekend.
thanks everyone

I couldnt figure out how to edit my post so I am replying to it.
I tried to datalog, but my laptop wouldnt read my sct, I just took my car in after 4 months problems.

The MAF sensor was just putting out 2.2 volts and also the flyby wire chip is bad. I dont know which was causing the spitting noise.
