Spring Isolators

I installed Bullitt Springs and shocks on the rear of my car tonight and used ProThane Isolators on the Springs, I almost didnt use the top one because the springs came with new rubber ones attached. Anyway, with the car on stands and the suspension at droop I was able to rotate the springs with my hands because those Isolators are so slippery. Do I need to take them back off and put the factory rubber one on top, or am I ok as is? BTW the car dropped approx 1/2" after install and looks really good!

You kinda lost me (and I am being hypnotized by the flashing banner advertisement ) but once you load the suspension, the springs dont budge when you try to rotate them, right?

I would rather use poly than the stock durometer elastomer isolators. The stock one might compress a hair more for a slightly greater drop though.

Sorry to not have better thoughts about it.
Sounds like a nice set up though!

You are correct, once I put it on the ground I stuck my arms in there and tried to turn them and could not. My concerns are probably a little overblown but if I go over bumps or humps and the rear suspension goes to full droop are they going to turn? Its important for those pigtails to point at the drivers side and I dont want them moving on me.

The really only way to get your entire suspension to be free like that would be if you were say... airborn....?

You should be fine, unless you live in a really hilly area and you like to drive very fast!

There are a few Country roads around here that have freakin humps enough to make your suspension go to full droop and you cant go slow there because the damn tractor trailers are on your ass. I guess I will either have to put the rubber isolator on top or just keep a constant eye on the springs to make sure they arent turning.

I just wanted to let you know that I saw your reply, but did not feel I had anything to add. The unloaded suspension dynamic is really something I dont experience.

I wonder:
You have it all installed with poly now, right? Take it for a run and go your thing and come back and see if the springs look like they tried to rotate. I personally don't see it happening, but like I said, I have no experience with this issue.

Ditto that, don't see it being a problem in the long run.

I would love to take your advice and take it for a spin, but I decided to do all my work at once, so I am in the middle of my M-2300-K install and my Bullitt Suspension install, and new lower A Arm install. So its going to be a little while before I can get on the saddle again!

All the poly ones are slippery -- I think after a few miles they will be less, not that I really think it would be a problem anyway.

The shock keeps the spring under compression by limiting movement of the suspension even when the suspension is not loaded. Its virtually impossible for that spring to rotate when its compressed so dont worry about it.

I thought he had the shocks in already when he noticed at full extension he could rotate the springs.

I'll have to check this out when I do my bushings whenever 50Resto gets them here. Any body else think they have slow service?

I live in Roswell NM and they ship out of Texas, still takes longer than it should (going on 5 days now), when I was in San Diego and I bought stuff from Summit is was always 2 days or sometimes next day even with just UPS ground. I guess I wouldnt be complaining except their service isnt as great as I have had with Summit and they charge a lot for shipping, which I suppose is why their advertised prices are cheaper...

You are correct, everything was reassembled and the car was on stands and I was able to grab the spring and rotate it. Once on the ground I cant, but it seems like when going over bumps or humps and the suspension unloads there is a possibility of them turning. I have considered putting the rubber one back on the tops that way there is no way they could rotate.

From what Im reading, he had it on the stands still and was able to rotate the, (interpreted) the struts were never compressed and therefore at FULL extension. Even if you go airborn, your susupension will never go to full extension as the struts dampen motion in both directions, so unless u were in the air for like 4 seconds to allow the struts to ope completely, I dont see your suspension reaching that far open, and therefore see you having no problem with springs turning.

on a side note, does anyone know where you can buy rubber isolators aside from oem? I prefer the softer durometer, especially since my suspenion is already stiff enough with the prokit and 5ways
