spring makers?

i have heard that all springs on cars are made by 2 or 3 complanies then are distributed to the name brand companies like Eibach. if this is true where can i find info on the companies?

had BBK on on a 96 GT made it ride horrible, have Eibachs on my 93 GT. the 93 rides better than the 96. and we all know that foxs were not known for their comfort. maybe coinedence......by the way the 96 drove great till the springs

I've heard that as well. I think Eibach and H&R are two of the major manufacturers, and not just resellers.

That may be the case but there must be a wide range of quality levels for these 3 or so manufacturers. H&R tend to be on the higher end of quality.

There are lots of companies out with there own label on the springs and you are correct, there are not that many manufacturers around..
A couple of companies are high end and produce using better methods and materials then others. You will find that companies that do production exclusively in Germany will have a better product because of the material used.
Companies in the US have a harder time with materials because of the cost involved with the importing of the raw materials (the tariffs have gotten crazy). Steel produced in Germany is much better then anywhere else in the world...
Many companies repackage or "private label" springs from US manufacturers because it is cheaper and they can make more money on the low-end springs.
A few companies are primarily concerned with your long-term satisfaction and will only use the best products out there...
H&R is always my choice....

ya i relize theres a few diff grades, from the stiffer to the softer to the better material used. Barnaby said, "I think Eibach and H&R are two of the major manufacturers" can anyone else supposrt this thought? i really want to do some research to find the better spring for my buck.

Eibach builds their own springs, if i understand correctly they are german built, and are Original equipment on alot of the higher end cars (BMW, Mercedes, etc.) and if you have ever owned or driven a BMW you know that they eat the curves. i love my eibachs prokit, great drop and the handle is awsome. i have just started on my supension, and would not go any other route first.

What are you asking? If you ask a direct question I can answer it for you.

Yeah H&R and eibach are the two Major players in the aftermarket spring business. Heck they are only miles from each other in Germany... There are also a couple of other spring manufacturers in the same area that only produce private label springs. There is a company that builds springs out of Denmark that also make their way over here under a major label but are not actually made by that label.
You have progress and hypercoil over here along with a few other bottom barrel manufacturers. eibach also has production over here for most of there US applications.
If you are looking for the best bang for the buck, what are you looking for out of the springs? What kind of lowering, performance level, street drag or road race?? You are asking a broad question and may be expecting a pointed answer..

Bottom barrel? I know nothing about Progress, but Hypercoil springs are superior to both H&R and Eibach. Not only are they are the finest coilover spring made, but they are also the spring that has been on every winning Indianapolis 500 car since 1964.

if i were you i would just get the H&R springs. they are cheaper than eibach springs and i havent heard anything bad about them

K, think you miss understood what I said.. I did not intend to imply that Hypercoil was a low-end spring company.. As for being the finest coilover spring made, well I would not go that far... Indy is not exactly a spring proving ground.

Glad I miss understood you. Indi isn't the proving ground I made that statement based upon. The MM shop cars have used them in every form of corner carving Mustangs compete in, and found them to be superior. When Maximum Motorsports says that they are the finest quality coilover spring available, I know they have run it through a regimen of testing unlike any other. For the record, they also sell H&R and Eibach. If you don't order coilovers from them, one of those two is what you'll get too.

Yeah, the Racecraft suspension is a little outdated in todays aftermarket. Not the king of the hill they were in the '80's. H&R is definately a good alternative to just about anything too, can't go wrong there. Like driftin4 said though- blkstangman88 needs to get more specific with what he expects from these springs before a winner can be suggested.
