I've noticed many shops, like VT, MMR, CHP, etc. that offer forged shortblocks.

My question is:

Which would be the best for a shortblock that will be shipped for installation in my home garage?

Some require cores, others don't, some have billet oil pumps, others don't.

I guess what I'm saying is- I want to do this once and not have problems or issues.

Who would/did you trust with your engine build?

I have no experience with them personally but i see nearly everyone will recommend vtengines. If you get just a regular forged replacement for your 4.6 sohc then you shouldnt need a core from vt.

All three seem to be good choices, so I would go with whichever one gives you a better deal... I thought VT had some specials going on right now, check their site.

I just ordered a shortblock from Pro Modular performance http://www.promodularperformance.com/1996-2005.htm . They had the best deal and you get more for your money. My shortblock will be here next monday.

I have one coming from VT in the next few weeks.I chose them because the only complaints I have heard about them is sometimes the wait for parts can take too long. They seem to build a great motor and are always available to answer any questions.
