Squeaky Clutch Or TOB

Over the past couple of days I have been hearing a increasingly louder squeak from my Trans. I think its my TOB but I am not sure, when I apply light pressure to the clutch it goes away. Does anyone have any ideas if it my TOB and should I replace it right away let it go until it gets really bad.

By the way my clutch is stock with about 55K on it so if my TOB is shot or going I will be replacing the whole thing does anyone have any recomendations on which clutch to get.

Thanks in advance

I does sound like a TOB fault. If you let it run, it will eventually sieze and wear through the pressure plate. Changing it seems the best alternative. Regarding clutch selection, some say this brand and some say that. Go with a reputable brand but know what the trade offs are. Soft clutch discs wear fast but operate smoothly. Hard clutch discs last longer but may clatter. Ford selects the materials for the mid ground...good life but freedom from chatter. Ram Clutches has a range of options and you choose which you want http://www.ramclutches.com/Products/ford_mustang_clutch_sets.htm Other brands are similar. Some only have one flavor so be sure to weigh the alternatives.

remember the throw out bearing spins when you step on the clutch and the input shaft of the tranny dosn't. If the noise goes away when you step on the clutch its usualy not the throw out bearing because thats when it spins. the problem most of the time resides in the tranny. If the noise stops with light pressure on the pedal but not all the way depressed, than it could be a worn clutch fork.

Mine stops squeaking whenever you step on the clutch, no matter if it is light pressure, half way, or to the floor. If you touch the clutch it stops squeaking. I can only hear it if the windows are down, so its not really that loud, but kind of annoying.

Mine only squeeks when my foot is off the clutch, no matter how hard or light my foot is on the clutch it will stop squeeking. Can I tell if my clutch fork is worn without removing the trans or should I just replace everything at once. Also are there aftermarket forks or do I buy the stocker from Ford.

Mines squeeks stops squeeking when u push in the clutch too did for for about a year now after a 175shot n slicks the whole shifter shakes like crazy a few people told me the throwout bearing is the cause the motor n tranny are out of the car right now due too minor engine problems it blew up haha

ooops :(
Mine squeek exactly the sameway. toutch the pedal it goes away. I can't imagine its Fork tho. This squeek thing is very common with 99+, you hear about it every other day from some owner, but I have never heard of worn clutch fork...

My clutch squeeks only when I push it in. If it starts to squeek, I just pump the clutch pedal 3 times or so and the squeeking stops. Its not an all the time thing just every once and a while. My clutch has about 5000 miles on it and its a motorsport clutch. Is this the tob or do I just need to adjust the clutch somehow?

so whats the verdict with this since we all have the same problem? anybody get this problem fixed? any recommendations?

My TOB was making a squeaking/chipring sound that would go away when I would press on the clutch pedal. I searched these forums for an answer. Seems many people that replaced their TOB's with either OEM or aftermarket ones eventually would have the noise return.

The only solution IMHO was to adjust the clutch cable to put more pressure on the TOB at all times to make the noise go away. I don't know how this will affect the TOB in the long run but I adjusted mine and it has been quiet and problem free for the past 6 months since I did it.

Read the following post for how I adjusted it:

A. Ignore the noise

B. Squirt some lube on the TOB and the noise will go away for a while

C. When your clutch wears out, replace the TOB, and hope it's better than the $ 1.98 piece Ford put in , originally.

Ive had the same exact problem for the last month. what pisses me off is that my kk clutch is only 3k miles old. i realy dont want to pay all that cash to have the tranny pulled just to put a new cheap tob in it. will it cause any serious damage if i dont replace it right away? is it even the tob? i also think a clutch adjustment might fix it cuz the tranny shop that did it rayaly ****ed it up!

it is the tob, and the squeaking isnt hurting anything, its just annoying. you dont need to replace the tob till it starts growling when you push in the clutch. and to the guy that asked about the forks, they suck and u cant do anything about it, only thing you can do is get a better tranny, im on my second T45 and 3rd clutch and i got just 75k miles on my car, gonna make a 6 speed GT when this p.o.s. T45 gives up on me
