So I recently replaced the tensioner pulley because it had a slight squeal on startup an was bothersome. It ran sooth until a week later when I started it up the thing was squealing like crazy. But with the engine running when I push the tensioner arm back (towards the engine) it stops squealing. I thought maybe I bent the tensioner when I tightened the new pulley on there? My main question here is: will a new tensioner solve this or is something else the culprit?

I thought about it, but my belt doesn't appear to be damaged nor stretched.

My belt was about 8 months old. Swapped both idler pulleys and still squealed . It start the day after I cleaned the engine. Must have done something to the belt to make it skip. A new belt is only 25.00 dollars, think this will fix it..

Alright well that's cheaper than getting a new tensioner anyway. I'll pick one up an report back here in a couple of days.

Oh and should I be picky with the belt brand? I know some people say it matters, but as long as I don't get the cheapy option it shouldn't matter right?

I bought the one with the three year warranty, but I have never had a belt failure except when a pulley locked up. Hope that gets it...Think it was 28.00.

That's reasonable, I'll report back when I swap it out.

Buy American.

Anyway it could be the idler pulley as well.

Well it's about a week since I've switched out the belt and no squeak. I ended up going with a Gates belt.

Thanks for all the help, never would of guessed the belt.
