I would definitely look at the U joints in that driveshaft. Especially if that is the original steel unit with how many miles on it. I know the driveshaft joints can make a lot of noise when they are spent. I had to replace some in a old pickup I used to have.
Drove my car to work yesterday to put some miles on it. Ran OK but it needs some tuning. Ran lean going to work and rich coming home. Got a new mass air sensor on order.

Well, I think Chris said they reccommended I change it after 100 or 500 miles but said I shouldn't really have to. And you're right about the diffy, I'm pretty sure thats not it, thats why it's last on the list, just frustrated trying to figure out what the problem is.

There's absolutletly no play in the driveshaft. It only has matbe 50k miles on it. And there's no shake, just an annoying noise and a slight intermittent vibration on the gas pedal. But the the gas pedal vibration might have been there already, it's so slight.

The wierd thing is it only does after I've driven it a bit.

Seems more noticeable after the front end rises a bit, like at the top of a small hill, or going around a corner, or acclerating pretty hard.

Definitely something wrong w/ my brakes, cause, when I lift the front end on jackstands, I can tell they're scraping on the rotors, plus they pull a little to the left. The back I can't really tell. But here's another funny thing. Like I said, it is happens after I've driven it a bit. So maybe the rotors or whatever else is expanding as they heat up causing the noise to be more pronounced. But when I take the wheels off and spin the rotor, no scraping.

Which makes me think axle bearings again, but there's no movement in the wheels when on jackstands. And doesn't seem especially hot.

Well still not exactly where I want to be but I improved on what I ran last time. Ive figured out my biggest hinderence though. Im crossing the line barley touching 5,000 RPMS I still have 1,000 rpms to play with and I believe thats why my MPH is somewhat down from where I figured it should be. I figure if I put in some 3.73's do the lower control arms and the panhard bar I should be in pretty good shape. The resurfaced track was alright It still needed to get some rubber down on it to improve on the grip but it should be good before to long. The temps are what helped out the most it was much cooler then the first night I ran and Im figuring out at what RPM the car likes to be launched at. Anyway heres my best time of the night.

60' - 2.166

1/8 - 8.807

MPH - 83.26

1/4 - 13.479

MPH - 105.33

so over all I dropped 3 tenths and gained 1 MPH on the last run of the night I let it cool down a lot and I did not have time for another run b/c the place was packed I only did 3 runs for the night. Not a huge improvement but its progress. I think with steeper gears I will have a better MPH, crossing the line at barley 5,000 RPMS is just not cutting it with the 3.27's

those 3.73s will certainly help!! and get a good tire!! Some MT of BFG Drag radials will do wonders for the ****ty 2.1 60.....i got sick of cutting 2.1s hence why i ordered the MT ET Streets

Exactly what Im thinking to, the car has 12's in it w/ out a doubt and I can drive a car to the 12's b/c I did it with the GT but then again the GT had 3.55's. By no means did I blow my previous times away but there was consistent improvement. Last time I ran I only had one run in the 1/8 that was in the 8's out of 5 runs. Last night all my runs were in the 8's so even though my 60' times were suffering I think the over all grip on the track is getting better.

Im going to do a Saturday test and tune in two weeks on the 14th for a heads up for anyone else that wants to go down or just watch.

There was also a new edge Saleen 281 with a Kenne Bell on it. He was from Maine and I asked what part and he said Madawaska, so you can pretty much kick a rock and hit canada from there. It was a sweet car but it said "COBRA" on his plate and he had a front plate drilled right through the front bumper on a saleen

You are talking about the rear end right?
feel the axel tube after it makes that noise. If one area is real hot compared to others than that could be the bad bearing. The bearing will be at the very end of the tube near the brakes. I had that happen many years ago. At first it made the noise on occasion then it became constant. The time it became constant I had to drive a ways to get home and that side of the axel was extremely hot.
Those bearings are easy to remove with the right tools. Slide hammer and a bearing puller. Both of which are free rentals at Auto Zone. I don't think the bearings are very much money either.
The u joints aren't tough either to replace. Just need 2 sockets and a large vice.

On another note I just busted someones balls in the classified section. He has 'cobra rear DICK brakes' for sale.

Both. The front end doesn't wiggle and the rear doesn't seem hot. But I didn't check the ends of the axle tubes. Just the spindle. Thanks for the tip. The noise is not intermittent. It just has to be driven while, then constant under same conditions that it didn't make the noise.

timeline
drove to CT on x-mas eve, rained, wore a hole in the steel brakeline chafed on exhaust, lost rear brakes w/ son and mother in car, sucked

went to fla on x-mas and my bro-in-law had line replaced, barely enough fluid left for fronts to work I was told.

drove back to ME on Jan 1st, no problems, besides the dr's on a slushy I95

Fired her back up to go to Shaws to clean IMRCs, and it starts making a noise at the higher speed, ie 80ish, on the way there, so no I didn't **** anything up cleaning it

Does it on the way back, but I was more concentrated on actual engine sounds then this annoyance. But I did lose about a pound of vaccuum. Gotta fix that line I showed you. Once I was sure I didn't **** up the engine, I gave it a few hot suppers. I actually noticed the improved power of cleaning the imrcs, shifts fine.

So, basically, it runs, shifts fine, just an annoying noise after it's been driven. I'm convinced it's either just tranny noise, or the brakes are completely f'd up.

Thats why I'm concentrating on things I can do here, in my dirt yard. I can't fix the ABS brakes if I **** them up. A trip to autozone for a "free" tool rental? OK, thats alright, I'll let it pass, you flatlander.

FWIW, I went over to mainland yestarday, left here at 7am, saw mom at rehab for an hour, got back in ferry line @ 11 am, spent the day moving up, after 4 loaded boats, I still didn't make it home. So camped out in the truck, and finally got home around 10:30 am this morning. No shower, no toothbrush, clothes or pillow or blanket. I friggin' hate summer jerks.

Damn larry I hope you get your issues figured out eventually. Then again there are not many of us who dont have some issue with our Mustangs either although yours seems to be a bit more troublesome. I need to replace my control arms in the front and Im still leaking power steering fluid from somewhere, small slight drip yet its still a leak.

Anyway I fixed my right hand side tip b/c it was pushed in way to far and gave it a bath since it was pretty dirty from the track.

Thanks, Trav. Really, I know a part of it's just me. I can't keep it as a dd and turn11's. But the other part knows that cars just don't start peeling paint, but the engine keeps running strong.

BTW, you're car looks good.

No not yet, its actually taken a back seat to some of the other things I want to get done such as the panhard bar, the LCA's and the 3.73's. Its actually not as loud as what it was when we put it on, or maybe Im just getting used to it. Ive been talking with this guy whos got a X pipe for a 94/95 Cobra for sale for $300 if the other buyer backs out I might get this one just b/c its to good of a deal to pass up.

Thanks Larry hopefully we can all get together soon for a track event or just to hang out there or at a show. Living right there on the coast must be murder on your paint.
