Stall under hard braking...

I'm having this problem where under hard braking my engine likes to stall out!

I'm not really sure what to look for here... I was going to check the fuel pressure and make sure that fuel wasn't sloshing around too much in the carb causing it to stall. But I'm not really sure if that's where I need to be looking.

Anyone have any pointers?

If you've got a 4 bbl Holley, you need to install anti-slosh baffles in the bowl vent openings. Fuel pressure has nothing to do with it. The pressure needed to feed a carb is less than the pressure exerted by the floats against the needle/seat assembly. The baffles are made by holley and look like plastic whistles, they're about an inch long x 3/8" wide by 1/8" thick.

It's actually a rebuilt Edelbrock. I rebuilt it recently and it was working fine... Guess I'll pull the top off and take another look at the float levels.

Should I be running a fuel pressure regulator? I'm not currently, never have in the past but it's been suggested to me. I'm just using an OEM fuel pump.

You should need no regulator with an O.E. pump.

Just out of curiosity, what size cam are you running, and are you running a stock torque convertor?

Converter is a 2700 stall converter and unfortunately I don't remember the cam specs, but no, it's not stock.

Big cam and power assist brakes? If so, you could be pulling a lot of vacuum off the manifold for the brakes and losing signal to the carb. If you think this is plausible, a vacuum canister may help. Hydroboost brakes would be, perhaps, the best way to go, if you have power steering. In my case, I went back to mechanical brakes.

I still have manual brakes actually. Lol, and no power steering so Hydro-Boost wouldn't be an option currently anyhow.

We go through this subject alot with the Cobras, most of us run Holleys. The above float advice is dead on. Jet extenders have been tried as well.

Or, just stop braking so hard!
