well i just got home from my little trip and about 3 miles away from home the temp gauge started going up. well when i pulled into the driveway it was almost touching the red line. parked and then all the coolent started leaking out. let it cool off and popped the hood and it came all from the radiator cap. here is my tech question, how do i diagnose what the problem is. im thinking either bad water pump or thermostat. how can i narrow it down to what it is. thanks guys.

same thing happened to me a few months ago, I took out my fan to have more clearance when I removed my crank pulley when I put the fan back in I forgot to plug it in, about 5 mins of city driving I noticed the car starting to over heat. Did you notice if the fan was going when it was overheating? therm is also good advice easy/cheap.

ok refill your system up with water don't bother added antifreeze now. leave the resovoir cap off and start your car. air bubbles in the system will get out if there are any. now a good way to tell if u have a stuck thermostat is to after bout 10 min put the cap back on and let it run for 5 more min. Then Feel you upper radiator hose. If it is hot and feels like it hase some pressure behind it it and feels stiff then check the lower hose. if the lower hose is pretty cold then u know the water is not flowing. Start with a thermostat and go from there. Just make sure to bleed the system of air when changing components by leave the res cap off for a bit.

like the other shave said check ur fans and make sure they are running. and when u bleed the system put the heat on in ur cap to get air out of the heater core.
