Hey, kinda new here. Well, i just bought a few months ago , a 91 mustang LX 2.3 with 151,000 miles, for basically nothing, 100 bucks. Now it runs pretty damn good for so many miles. But of course, no get up and go. And come on
mustangs just make no sense as 4 cylinders. Anyway, i want to drop a 302 in it.
I got a grand i'm workin with right now. What do you suggest i upgrade first,
should i start with the 8.8 rear and suspension? Oh , and the cars an automatic.
Any help would be great.

I'd start with all suspension components (brakes, springs, etc). There is a lot more to a 4cyl conversion than just the motor!

Agreed. Find a totalled V8 car at a state auction or something for a donor, and start ripping. Or, find a wrecked T-bird Turbocoupe, and snag the turbo paraphinalia off the 2.3 in that. Buddy of mine did that to an '87 2.3 LX he had, and really surprised some 5.0's with it. It also has a better rear, and better T-5 you could snag...
