So I am just curious if anyone else has this same noise... When I start up my car in the morning for the first time (about 50 percent of the time this happens) I have some noise that I would have describe as "Lifter" noise. Obviously there are no lifters to pump and I really am not that familar with OHC so I am just curious if this is normal or not? I did a search on this site and I came accross something with the Cobra's DOHC and timing chain noise at start up... As a side note this noise is present with motorcraft filters and I just switched to a K&N to see if that alleviated the problem but it didnt... I have been using mobil 1 5w-30... Like I said it sounds to me like a Top End Half Speed noise, not a lower end noise... Car has 50K miles on it. Any thoughts?

...I can take it. I think.

My fuel injectors are a little noisy. Sort of like the noise you describe. Also check the crank pulley bolt to make sure it is tight. It will cause some timing chain clatter if it has loosened that could be described as a similar noise. Don't ask how I know this.

I have this same exact thing, and i have been told the timing chain gasket is bad, so i figure the timing chain must be there too, and its only at start up and between a certain RPM i can hear it as well. So I am in the same boat as you are.

Do you hear it also between 2500 and 3000 rpms? Timing Chain gasket? My car has never dropped a spec of oil?

Yes those are the exact RPM's i hear it at most when i hold the revs. I know my car has not leaked a spec of oil either. I check my oil every fill up and from what i have seen no leaks. But just saying what some jack ass mechanic told me. That my timing chain gasket was going bad. That was like 40,000 miles ago. I am pretty sure i have around 180,000, and the timing chain has never been replaced.
