starter grinding

I have a 1990 5.0 in a ford ranger and the starter is grinding. Replaced the selenoid and starter - still having the problem. Just bought the truck and looks like someone recently replaced the parts. It start fine for the first few days and now it is grinding.

Did not have shims on it or with the new starter. I bought the first one at Autozone and then went to NAPA and bought another - still grinding...any suggestions.

CHeck to see if the solenoid's trigger is staying hot after you release the key.

Do you know the condition of the flywheel?
