Reading back over the post - I think what you're calling the 'solenoid' - that you replaced, I call the fender-mounted starter switch. Same piece if it had big starter/hot battery connections to it.

So, if jumping didn't help your battery's probably ok. If you've replaced the solenoid/fender-mounted starter switch then that piece should be ok. Sounds like it's the starter. Best I can do I think.

i cant remember what all has been said, but have you gone over all your battery connections (battery positive cable, ground cable, motor ground(s) and starter cable)? if one or more is compromised, all the power in the world will be lost in efforts to start the car. remember juice flows from ground to positive.

good luck.

had the same problem in mine... starter died, got a replacement, started smoking a few weeks after installation... went to autozone(where i got it) they tested it and it smoked their tester so they replaced, now im getting a zinging noise for a sec after starting. shorted out starter melted the terminal off of the solenoid (fender switch) and killed battery.... ended up replaceing the whole system so sounds like ur one step away from that......

replace your starter and let us know whats up
