this could probobly go in talk, but i figured sense it was somewhat tech related i would put it here. I was driving through hartford in my 83, the road i was on was pot-whole city, it was raining prety hard, and there was a puddle spanning the whole with of the road for aabout a 10 foot period. i figured sense it had only been raining about an hour it couldnt be too deep, bad choice :notnice: , i get about half way through it and i hit the biggest pot-whole iv ever hit. A gigantic bang thunders from the undercarage of the car smashing into the unforgiving asphault. i pulled over and got out of the car(left it running) looked under, and everything looked fine :p i was happy. i get home and park my car, about an hour later i go out to go to work and i start my car up, the most terrible sound screams from the starter, but the car started right up, i shut it down got a creeper, jacke the car up and went under to take a look. BOTH ears on the starter had broken clean off and the starter was sitting in the hole at a 45 degree angle, the terrible sound was it grinding the flywheel at 45degrees, but i was amazed the it still started the car. got a new starter in and it was all good. haha but i still cant believe that the way it was in there it managed to start the car, and without cranking a lot either maybe 2 or 3 times.

heh, one of the ears on my starter is broken off, i just bolt it on with the piece that's broke off and it kinda acts like a wedge and holds everything sturdy. Between the unbroken side and the piece that's broke off being there, it's like it never broke at all. I'm thinking about getting a mini starter to replace it.

HAHA wow thats pretty amazing that you did that much damage to the starter but didnt break anyting else. I always feel like me entire wheel is going to break off if i even hit a small pot hole....the stock suspension is pretty ruff...amazingly it puts up with some hits tho. good story tho
