Hey all, anyone have any experiences with upgrading the starter unit on the 5.0? I used to have old mopars and they make a mini small starter aluminum smaller and high torque starter. Anything for the for 302? Thanks.:SNSign:

I went through two crappy Napa starters, then got a Protorque starter from Summit a couple years ago. works like a charm

In 1993 (IIRC) Ford cut the weight of the starter down from 18lbs. to 9lbs. Thus creating a factory ministarter... You can get these from all parts stores.

Thanks all! The original starter seems to be getting a little weak!

I got a new starter made for a '96 Explorer with the 5.0.Easy to install,easy to wire.and much better.It takes a while to get used to the Mopar sound,but after 2 months,I'm finally geting used to it.

There definetly is a Ford and Mopar sound to a starter.
