When I had starter problems this is the path I had to take.
1. Bought a new starter (starter was bad)
2. Car would continue to start while car was running (solenoid was bad) bought new solenoid
3. Had the same problem with the new solenoid and after my 3rd one I didn't have the problem anymore.
4. Had starting issues where the car wouldn't start or crank over. I would lose all power for a 10 seconds or so then the car would gain power. If I tried to start it again the same thing would happen. Sometimes it would start fine. Replaced battery (was in warranty) and ignition switch.
5. Had the same issue as before so I decided to replace the negative ground for the battery and the postive wire leading to the solenoid. Problem fixed.
I believe the starter was causing my first solenoid problems and the wires only made it worse. I don't think there was ever really a problem with the ignition switch.
I haven't had any issues since then and it has been over a year now. Hope this helps.
