This is for my 86 pickup.
I have a 300 6. It takes the same starter as the 302/351.
I did a manual to C6 conversion. The starter sounds as though it is not meshing properly. It makes a ton of noise. It will always turn the motor over.
I have tried 2 different starters both brand new. One from Pep and the other from the zone. I used the flywheel that was originally mated to this particular tranny. It came from a 6cly truck that I owned previously. The original truck did not have the issue.
The tranny was rebuilt about 1.5-2 years ago and since then has had whining from the front pump. I put about 1000 miles on it like it is and used it to tow with before I bough my 250SD.
The starter lays flat on the bell housing and slips in the spot with no problem, but I still have the noise. I also get some shavings in the starter cup.
Any thoughts beyond what I have tried already?
BTW this is a standard size starter, not a Mini.
