Ok, everyone here has always been extemely helpful so I am asking my question here. While my problem is with a 96 Probe, it is a "general" question. Here is my situation as of recently:
1. Sometimes my car starts fine for weeks and then gives me problems. Either the car will sit there and crank and crank, however there is no power to the coil. If I slam the hood a few times, it will usually start up.
2. Sometimes when attempting to start the car, it will just "click" without cranking. After a few turns of the key and hearing the cylinoid clicking, it will usually start up.
We have cleaned the crank shaft positioning sensor and that did us no good. Today, when I went out to leave for work, I attempted to start the car with no luck. There is no cranking and no "clicking" of the cylinoid. This leads me to believe that the starter is shot. However, I am concerned that there my be an electrical problem somewhere. Obviously, I don't want to replace the starter if it is an electrical problem.
Would the above symptoms be related to a starter going bad? Do you guys have any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks,
Chris
