Starting to get discouraged by the ls1/lt1 talk...

Hey all, last night (like every night) I just type random things into google and find forums to look up about fox mustangs, how badass they are, etc. well I stumbled across a LS1/LT1 forum that was many pages long, talking about how the fox 5.0 isn't CRAP compared to the LS/LT. At first I was smirking and saying to myself, "Fox's are the ****nit and there's nothing you can say about it," but by about the 3rd page of reading it was starting to make sense. I'm HOPING I'm wrong, but does it really take a heck-load of work to get into the 12's for a 5.0?

I have 4.10 gears, bigger maf, rebuilt tranny, bore'd over to 306, UDP's, Motorcraft Distributor, CAI, Bigger Throttle body, and about to install an Exploder Intake.

Do I really not stand a chance even against the LT1's? this is depressing me, being I converted from chevy about 2 years back when I've had 2 motors blow on me:notnice:, while im on my third mustang that seem bulletproof.

PLEASE clue me in. I'm not trying to rally up some men here for a trash talk on GM, but I do want some encouragement and tell me I'm wrong!

There is a couple cars that get into the twelves with BONE STOCK motors and just weight savings, your mods, big and littles with sticky tires, exhaust, etc. Is your car auto? that could be a big restricter on your speed. A good driver can hit 12's easy with a relatively stock car. I'm runnin 13.0 with slicks with your basic GT40 steel heads, e303 cam, and explorer intake with 4.10s and exhaust. Look up 25thmustang, he gets some seriously good times with his car and he also has a very very modest set up.

The stock LT1 will kill a stock 5.0... Coming from someone who has owned both and seen numerous races.

The ONLY time I have ever seen a stock 5.0 roll door to door with a 93+ Camaro was actually my 93 back in the day when my friend owned it, and he was running drag radials on it at the time. The notches are light enough to be a threat, but on a kickdown there is no way.

Pretty much got rid of my first 5.0 for a 95 Formula LT1. That car would romp on a 5.0.

BUT...

One thing you need to understand is that the 5.0 was really geared more toward the working man. It was cheap in comparison to the other pony cars. It was affordable and had a 302 truck motor slapped into it.

Now the LS1... I'm not afraid of them anymore but I have heads/cam/intake.

ok first off i give this thread like 3 minutes before an argument starts, so i guess i'll stir the pot.

You cant really compare the 5.0 to the LS, they are decades ahead in technology and putting one in a fox will get you AT LEAST 10's on a stock bottom end, and there are a few guys ive seen on the internet that have run high 9's with a stock bottom end, you cant rreallly do that with a stock 5 litre without boost.

LS swaps are badass, if i build another car thats what im planning, but most guys hate them, which is fine, but some of the brand loyal arguments are just rediculous, how much ford stuff is left on a serious street/strip mustang?

TROOF.

You would come more closely comparing the 1993-1997(8?) LT1. Which will kill a 5.0 in no time flat.

Guys were running 8.9's in the 1/8 mile on street tires in Formulas and 9.0-9.1 in T/A's and Camaros. The stock 5.0 will usually get a 9.4-9.5 on a GREAT day.

Now again, with drag radials I saw my friend drive my car to a 9.0 but it is a notch and he had exhaust and drag radials.

Lol, how many ford parts do you think are left on our cars?

Yes I do have a T5 in my girl, and from what you are all saying, and what is posted in sigs, after the Explorer intake I should go straight for some heads. I am just making sure i don't make the mistake of underrating a little lt1 and getting fisted.

I understand that mod for mod the lt is stronger, but I'm hoping with the weight transfer capability and light weight frame of fellow fox's, we can live to fight another day.

My brother just sold his 2000 camaro ss and bought a 92 lx. Yes, the mustang is slower, but you can actually work on them. You dont have to plan a whole night to change the spark plugs out. The interiors on the chevy are very cheap. And a chevy will NEVER sound like a ford. Parts are cheaper, and fox bodies look better.

To me...the 5.0 is crap as well.

Instead of spending $5000-10000 on a 331 with AL heads, custom cam, high end parts, etc etc to make a reliable 450HP N/A with choppy idle, loud and tempermental, i would rather just shoehorn a stock 5.0 Coyote motor in, and have over 400HP on an engine you prob couldn't even tell was running most of the time.

The 5.0 is technology from the early 60's. There are plenty of V6 engines out there that can beat a mild 5.0. I have videos of me at the track in my stock G35 sedan beating friends with gears, bolt ons, etc on their 5.0's.

Back in the late 90's, i use to drive my Fox around thinking I could handle 90% of the cars on the road. These days, i drive around with 400HP muscle cars and 300HP family sedans on the road thinking to myself "Damn, i hope this Maxima doesn't smoke me"

Whatever...they are a flawed vehicle...but we love them. :)

Have you been hanging out with Gearbanger? :p

or you could have the best of both worlds by combining the two cars :D

My block is the only ford part in my driveline

i had a 99 SS, and im sorry but are you really comparing interior quality of a fox to an SS? And im sorry but a true dual LS1 sounds ****in badass, just gotta get rid of the y pipe bull****. And i can see how working on a LSx series is difficult if you arent proficient with tools, no worse than a modular or big block though

The sooner you care less and less about other cars, the happier you will be in life. Trust me on this, I used to argue about it all the time, and try and defend any and all cars. Now I simply mod/enjoy what I have, and let everyone else do the same.

BTW, I have fun with stock LS1 cars, the few times I have challeneged or been challenged by them. Two of my best races were with LS1s.
