Starting to get discouraged by the ls1/lt1 talk...

now I never said fox's were ugly. I love the look of the fox, especially my own. I'm not driving around in an lt1 because my last blew on me! I'll do what I can to stay away from GM just from my experience thus far.

gm is fine in my book, well, up until they stole taxpayer money last year via comrade obama... but either way, i wouldnt let it bother you. i also wouldnt worry about the new "super" ford modular engines either. if you do your fox right it will be competetive, fun, and SIMPLE. which to me is perfect, i dont need 500hp and a quiet smooth ride, i have my truck for that. :nice:

Good point. But those parts are gonna cost over 4G's and you're not installing those with the engine in the car. So if you don't have a garage, a car lift, a ton of tools, and some time on your hands you're gonna end up taking it to a shop. Most shops won't touch that kind of work and the ones that do are gonna charge at least 2 G's for the labor involved. Let's not forget the tuning. For that same 6 G's you can get a 351 stroked to 390 or 408 cubes with a top end kit, and headers. Most backyard mechs can handle that install in a couple days. And the Fox weighs a lot less than the Z28's...

6g's? do you get a gallon of KY with that? Let me key you in, you arent gonna get a 408 in your fox without a garage, ton of tools, time, and patience. Pulling a motor in an F-body is not difficult. Tuning an LSx is easier, guaranteed than tuning a 408 on a stock fox computer. Are you forgetting you'd need new everything? hood, complete engine, transmission, etc. and now to the LS mods, are you paying 1000 for a cam, 1000 for an LS6 intake, 1000 for head work, and 1000 for long tubes? dont think so, most shops charge around $300 for the port work on a lsx head, cam MAYBE $500 is its a custom grind, headers, if you choose creme da la creme sure you can spend 1k but you dont need to and ls6 intakes are cheap, even if purchased new. And no you dont need a lift, seem to have built my cars without a lift.

Well you did mention an HCI combo for the LS1. I only said 6 G's because a top end kit for an LS1 is gonna run about $3,000 and that doesn't include an intake which is another $400 +...If you get a throttle body with that then you can add another $250. A set of headers is gonna run around $400 and the rest of the exhaust is gonna run around $350-$400 depending on the brand...thats over $4,000 in parts alone. You might be able to shop around and shave some money but you're still gonna pay around $4,000. And if you take it to a shop the labor is gonna run $1,000 to pull the engine and put it back and IF they agree to install the parts they're probably gonna charge an extra $500 - $1,000...if it's a speed shop they're probably gonna charge even more than that...

And you can do your car without a lift but that just means you're a very skilled mech with a good set of tools and a garage. I was mainly talking about the average guy out there who doesn't have those advantages...

If you're an average mechanic you aint getting a 408 in your car.
Lets break it down
Head work $600
Cam $500 TOPS
Intake Maybe $300
Headers $400
Mid pipe $300
Throttle Body $200
Tuning, maybe 1 hour $150
Figure you pay a shop to install it all for you thats 1k according to you, hell of alot less than 6k, do it yourself for even cheaper.

When you said HCI I took it to mean a straight up aftermarket set. I guess you were talking about a head port job. That does make a considerable difference. But you ain't gettin an aftermarket intake for less than $400 or an aftermarket TB for $200 (except maybe a used one on Ebay). In any case it still isn't a fair comparo as I initially stated. The Fox was 5 years gone by the time the LS1 came out. The LT1 was definitely kicking every Mustangs tail up until the 96 Cobra showed up I'll give you that. Even those Cobras had a hard time. But to compare a LT1/LS1 to the Fox is about as underhanded as comparing the Terminator Cobra to a TPI Camaro...

You know what, it's funny how if you did in fact compare a Termi Cobra to a TPI Camaro the Chevy boys will cry foul faster than a referee on the take...yet, they constantly use every chance they get to compare the LS1 to the older Foxes...next thing you know they're gonna be comparing the 2010 Z28 to the NPI GT's...

lol no comment, it was a dumb thread to begin with, the op is new i dont think he had any idea what he was stirring up haha, lets all just forget this stupidness and keep being 5.0 talk lol
I think he was a little upset about what he read on that other forum. It is a little discouraging when people bash your fave car. I wasn't arguing with Shaolin Crane BTW, I was just expressing that it is not fair to grade the Fox along with the 4th Gen GM F-Body. But you're right, it's better to talk Mustang stuff on a Mustang forum right...??

OK, I will apologize for stirring this pot of poo. And Three50 got it right on, I was pretty angry over what I read, and I officially know now what happens when you bring up this Jets vs Sharks ordeal... if it keeps going someone might get stabbed. I appreciate all the input. I guess maybe i was just looking for a hand on the shoulder to say they were lying, and everything's going to be ok? I'm not really sure the complete significance out of this, but now I just have more drive to show the LSx owners they paid a lot of money to get spanked by 20-30 year old cars. But until then, I'll pick my fights very carefully.

Just put an LS motor in your mustang and you wont have to worry about them picking on you anymore
