Steeda CAI Questions

You had the right idea, the CALID has to match correctly to your car. Dont even bother using the other files if the CALID doesnt match. The MAC tunes should contain a 91 Octane tune and a 93, you will be informed which is which when just about to impot one of the tunes to the PCM.

The C&L comes with a "performance tune" which notifies you thats its rated for 93 octane upon trying to import it. The other tune is printed as a "91 Tune" in the menu.

I don't have a MAC CAI, it is a Steeda. The tune that matches my CALID is the 93 octance tune. I really don't want a 93 octane tune as first of all it is not at every gas station (unless they only have it at certain pumps ?) and it is expensive. I would go with the 91 octane tune though.

So is your CEL still off cleveland? If it is I might try doing what you said in your previous post until I get an answer from Steeda or DiabloSport.

Sorry about the confusion with the CAI name, ther are just so damn many that I lose myself in the conversation.

The CEL is still off so you should give it a try.

Lol, its no problem. I believe I am going with the 93 tune like I had before (Disregard my previous post, for some reason I thought premium was 91 octane  ), but I need to switch over to the premium gas before I try. I am going to probably have to fill up tomorrow and I will give the CAI another go in a day or two.

Alright, I have been running 93 octane in my tank for a while now and I tried reinstalling the Steeda CAI. I still get the same thing as before, FUEL IS LEAN :notnice: ! I am at a loss here, I tried your fix cleveland but it didn't work. I also tried contacting Steeda. They said it wasn't their fault and to contact DiabloSport. I thought that made sense since the CAI shouldn't work on the '05 without a tune so I contact DiabloSport. The first help message they send back was crap and didn't tell me anything. I have sent numerous messages to them and have not had a single response. I am getting very pissed about this and am not very impressed with DiabloSport's customer service so far. Does anyone have a fix for a lean condition reading when installing the CAI?

You live in NC and there isn't 93 at all the stations?

91 Octane is in California they're not able to get 93. Most other states carry 87, 89, 93 or in Cali you get 91.

Why don't you download the Steeda tune right from Diablo's webpage and load that?

Check my other posts, these issues have been addressed. I made a mistake before when I said I was using 91 octane since it was actually 93 octane, I have never used premium before so I didn't know. I have been using the Steeda tune from Diablo's webpage from the very beginning. It just doesn't work. Everytime I install the CAI and the tune I still get a lean reading. To make me even more frustrated neither company seems to want to help with the problem. It is just a little bit annoying.

So you reinstalled the tune with the richer settings? You should try moving another few points richer and reinstall. The tune just may be screwy for your car. Also, clear the trouble codes with your predator and head to a dyno tuner as soon as you can.

I am going to follow this advice. I have asked people on a different forum I belong to and they said the EXACT same thing, lol. I am going to set it a few points richer and then head to a dyno tuner as soon as possible to get everything fixed.

There are several things you should try first before doing an adjustment to your Steeda CAI tune from DSP:

1) What is your DSP rev number? r21 is the latest
2) If you have to upgrade to r21, then you will need to also download the latest Steeda CAI tune from DSP
3) Pray! Just kidding....I have not had any problems with mine since I did the above.
4) have you removed the vapor trap in the intake tube right past the MAF? If you have not, then remove it. It helps for a better air flow and is good for another 3-4 RWHP.

You can also look for Nickatdiablosport on this web site. He posts all the time and should be able to help you. Do a search on DSPs here and he should show up somewhere on a lot of posts.

One more thing to do to the CAI filter...use a little fine sand paper to rough up the outer plastic ring that the filter mounts to attached to the CAI heat shield. This will insure a tight and slip free fit.

Good Luck!

1) Mine came with version r21, so I am good there
2) I have already done this as well
3) I have done a lot of praying, lol
4) I will be removing the vapor trap and see how that works

I have tried PMing Nick but no response so far and I have emailed DS. They are trying to help me with it so I should figure it out sometime.

That is what I was thinking too but it doesn't matter. It appears that HC trap was never there in the first place  . I have heard about some of the "newer" '05s not having them. I have a PM from someone at Steeda and Adrian from DiabloSport is helping me as well, so hopefully I will have this fixed soon.

05 Steeda Cold Air Kit

Hey Chris,
Glad it seems to be getting squared away. If you have any further questions please feel to contact me at anytime, I will help in anyway that i can, whether it be getting answers to your questions.

Sean

I was sent a PM from SteedaGus and he helped me figure out the problem. It seems that Steeda has a newer version of their CAI out and the MAF housing is 5mm larger than the older version. I measured mine and it appears to be the newer kit. So, now I just have to wait until DiabloSport finishes their tune for the new Steeda CAI. I found out that SCT already has a tune for it for their XCalibrator. Now I wish I had bought the tuner from SCT, damn. Oh well, I guess a few weeks won't kill me.
