Hey guys......

I saw Steeda posted their Cold air kit for the 2005 Mustang GT today!!!

However, the product description states that a new flash tune is MANDITORY.

If I understand this correctly, you need to purchase the $260 cold air kit, then the $375 tuner, install them both, then pay to have the car professionally tuned??????? OUCH!

Anyone using the MMR intake kit WITHOUT a tune having any problems?

I hear the check engine light may come on for a short period of time with the MMR kit while the computer re-adjusts to the additional air. Is this correct? Anyone???

I intend to call Steeda today and get some more facts about their kit as well.

My pony needs air!

Do a search on the MMR Kit and you will get some useful info on WHY you need a tune (or why not - depending on who you think is more accurate). If Steeda says you need a tune with their kit, then it must be true (based on their testing, the A/F may have been too high).

I have to agree with gilmoujr on this one. Better to be safe than sorry, and get a custom tune no matter what intake you purchase.

You do need a Tune.

For one, the MMR kit is a 85mm MAF vs the stock 79mm. Now, I added mine, used it for 1 month before I got the tune. When I get re-dynoed, there were 3 hp gained with out the tune. Now, once I gto the tune, there was 15 rwhp added. Overall the quality of both is about the same - but the MMR kit has a new tubing coming out soon + the heat shield - for an additonal cost. According to MMR, the turing and heat shield are only good for a few HP.

The Steeda claims their 20 HP. I cannot verify nor verify it at this time. The only ones I have tested or seen tested have been MMR kits.

I am very happy with mine.

I spoke with Steeda... they say that ALL of the high flow intake kits, less the K&N drop in filter will require a flash tune.

However, I contacted C&L and thier cold intake kit will NOT require a flash tune, as the kit comes with a calibrated mass air housing that compensates for the additional air flow while maintaining the proper air/fuel ratio.
We will see.

I think this is the best option for those who do not want to re-flash.

The tune you mention is that just the hand held tuner you can buy or are you talking about taking it to a dyno shop for a tune?

Only 270rwhp/276rwtq at the moment.

SCT flash tuner purchase. If you can get one, and dynoed at the same time - do it. If not, they can pre-program it for you and ship it to you.
