Anyone here who has the steeda hood, did you test fit it yourself before having it painted. I only ask because I did mine and am having trouble making it fit. The best I could do is a nice even gap between the fender and hood on the passengers side, and a wide gap up front tapering down to almost nothing on the driver's side. I was just wondering if the body shop will be albe to sand the edge down and make it somewhat even. Also I will need to adjust the latch, but when I tried to do that, I noticed there were some locater pins in the latch and I couldn't move it around. Will it be ok to shave these off?

Thanks

I have steeda's hood on my 01 GT with no fit issues. Granted, steeda did the install of the hood but I'm sure they can give you some suggestions if you give them a call.

When my hood showed up at the body shop, they did some test-fitting before the hood was sprayed. He had no trouble getting it fitted. In fact, he said it was the best fitting fiberglass hood he's ever dealt with and he does a lot of resto/street rod type work. IIRC, all he had to do was adjust the latch, but I don't know the details on what he did.

I already gave them a call on thursday. The tech that I spoke to really came off as not believing what I was saying. They said they would give me a call back after checking with some people. Still haven't heard anything from them, must be checking with a lot of people... I'll call them again on Monday and probably ask for another hood.

I had to shave, not the hood, but the metal positioner things that are located at the back of the engine bay, those metal things that are used to position the hinge. That was sort of a pain, but it eventually fit pretty well.

So don't shave the hood. Fiddle with those metal positioning hinge things, near the back of the engine bay, that the hood attaches to.

In other words, you can move the hinges by loosening the screws that hold the hinge onto the car, and moving the hinges around. However, like I said, even that wasn't enough, so I had to shave some of the metal off of the hinges, where the hinges are joined to the car, using a Roto Zip (very useful tool for do-it-yourself Stang cosmetic changes).
