I'm in the middle of installing the shifter! Need some help.. It says NOT to install the rubber boot that was attached to the factory shifter!? If I leave it out won't dirt & $hit get into the shifter/transmission?

Cut the rubber boot just enough to get it over the shifter. Use it or else you will also have excess noise too.

Weird instructions! We used the rubber boot/inner shift boot. As stated above, just trim enough of the round opening to make it rectangle and fit over the shifter...you can always trim more (which we had to do).
At their website, their instructions make no sense --->http://www.steeda.com/instructions/Tri-AxT5.htm
Step #13 - it says "Place the inner shift boot over the shift lever until it rests on the BootGuard. (This is the rubber boot which bolts to the transmission tunnel, not the rubber boot which was attached to the factory shifter.)" Huh? The inner boot shift boot IS the rubber boot! Someone was on drugs when they wrote these instructions.

Its talking about the little boot, not the one attached to the gold looking plate thing. Glad you got it installed...hows it feel.
