I just installed a Steeda Tri-Ax shifter last week, and now it whines in second and third gear. It never did that before. What could this be??

Thats normal, theres not as much sound deading material w/ a aftermarket shifter so your just hearing tranny whine, no biggie mine does the same thing.

Check the fluid just in case. I put mine on and I heard the whining, thought it was normal, and turned out my tranny was low on fluid and froze up :damnit:

Now I have a new tranny with new fluid and it doesn't whine nearly as much. Take my advice and check the fluid anyways.

Not sure if the Tri-ax has stops, but maybe they need a bit more adjustment?
Check it out...good luck

Or put a thin piece of rubber between the upper and lower halfs of the shifter that will take a bit of noise out of it.

Yes, the Tri-Ax does have stops. And if they're out of adjustment, it can make the shifter quite a lot louder than it normally is (not to mention damaging the transmission if they're really out of whack).

I'm still trying to get mine adjusted...

But it's well worth the crisp shifts....

Back your stop bolts about a turn back from your shifter being set in gear. (.10) of a inch or so...

The sound your hearing is normal. You have lost the sound deadening between the shifter handle/base so you hear more "metal sounding" harmonics.

I doubt it is your fluid level if the only change you did was the shifter...

Check it anyways for piece of mind
