I was thinking about getting STEEDA U/P set. I've been reading a lot of threads of mixed opinons over whether the mod was worth getting or not. I realize the pros are freeing up h/p and possibly better gas milage, the cons being that the install can f-up your car(if not done correctly, which seems to be quite possible). I was going to have a local shop do the install which I could provide him with the instructions with STEEDA which I think he would follow(he's an honest guy). So ultimately is this mod worth the hassle or should I just get other things like an intake, pendlum, mass air flow sensor, etc... instead?

I had the steeda UDP's on my 99, and yeah they do help the car car pull
a bit harder at higher RPM's. But on my 04 I am not adding them cause I
dont race and would rather spend the $ on other things. I had a problem with
my 99 stalling out when I would just be creaping along in drive with my
foot off the gas, like pulling into my gararge or a parking space. On the plus
side they seemed to keep the air conditioner from sucking HP from the motor.

don't waste your money on the other mods.
The pulleys are worth a solid 5hp and are a breeze to install.

+1. Very easy to install. I had them on my car for almost a yr with no problems. It took me about 45minutes to install them. Follow the instructions and you'll have no problem with them. Not a big gain in power but noticeable. Pearl02.
How? It has a crank, alternator, water drive pulley. I have a convertible so I don't run the air much anyhow.
I am about to install some Steeda U/D pulleys. I was in your same boat trying to decide between the yea and nay sayers but figured since I am staying N/A they do not hurt. Wouldn't trust the cheaper ones though.

It's all about ratios. If you undersize the crank pulley and didn't touch anything else, everything would turn slower. Adjusting the alternator and waterpump pulleys does two things: it ensures adequate charging and water flow and also allows the retention of the factory belt length.
The smaller crank pulley still results in the A/C turning at a slower rate. Since HP equals torque multiplied by RPM, if you slow the A/C compressor down, you reduce the parasitic power loss.

i had em, i got rid of them. to be honest i didnt notice a power difference before and after, and i didnt notice performance decrease after i got rid of em.
the alternator doesnt charge as much and the headlights can dim at idle.

I've seen some people run UD pulleys, but keep the stock alternator pulley. They claim that the tensioner will pick up the slack, but that's just "some guy's" opinion.

Steeda pullies are the best. If your car is in tip top shape those pullies wont hinder anything on the motor and actually make it more efficient. It specifically says that your charging will NOT be effected, and your cooling system will be just fine.
you will be fine. I've put 200,000 miles on my cars with underdrive pulleys. No problems. You won't notice a difference.

As I stated earlier, I"ve had no problems with the pullies. I replaced all the pullies. I have no charging or a/c problems at all. Steeda makes the best pullies for Stangs. They will work great with your car. Some people don't like them and they have their reasons. It's up to you to decide. Pearl02.

So with that said, you still felt some gains, correct? I just don't want to dish out $200 and feel no gains b/c i decided against installing the alternator pulley.
