Steel Wheel Questions

Okay Guys,

My girlfriend bought a 66 coupe about 5 months ago. Since then most of my free time has gone to improving the looks of the car so that she could cruise around in it. It has actually turned into a pretty nice little daily driver. She complains that the car does not handle that well. It runs factory wheelcovers on 51/2 inch wheels with a 195/75/14 tire. I immediately located a used set of 14X7 magnums and have not put them on yet because we are waiting on tire funds. My plan was to run a 225/60/14 RWL on the Magnums. Here is my delima. If this was my car, I would have a full shelby suspension set up on it with 17X? torque thrusts but this is her car and she likes the way it looks with the factory caps. Is there a 61/2 or 7 inch steel wheel that I can find to give some extra width yet keep the vintage look with the hubcaps? I will admit that this car turns heads everywhere (as do all of yours I am sure) and I am beginning to think that the magnums would take away from the original look. I am thinking maybe I could use a big body ford or (gasp) a mopar steel wheel. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Also, If anyone is looking for a set of magnums cheap I might have a set for sale. As always thanks for your help! Have a safe and fun holiday weekend!

15 x7 Magnums all around
205/60/15 front
215/60/15 Rear

Whe time/$$ allows do the shelby drop in the front (or better yet, Neg Wedge kit) and use 1" lower leafs in the rear. People will stop you all day long to tell how hot the car looks and it will handle 10x better.

Whish I had a picture of the 66 that I sold

You're kidding, right? Magnums look real hot on those cars, especially the coupe models. I had them on my '66 Coupe 14 x 7, did the 1" Shelby drop and added a strut tower brace, man I wished I never drove the car without those mods before. You will Love it. And - those Magnums give it that muscle look also. :) very classic!

if she doesnt like the look of the magnums, check out wheel vintique. they will build a set of wheels for you in steel if you wish, in what ever size you want, and the prices are reasonable. you want a 14x7 wheel with a 225 or 235/60-14.
