Steering Column bolt...

Is there only one bolt I need to take off under the hood. Seems to be impossible. When I turn the bolt, the steering turns. Any tips?

There is one bolt at the rack (where the steering shaft goes into the rack). It is a pinch bolt as I recall.

Is someone around that can hold the wheel for you? If not, can you turn the wheel with the key out of the car (so the steering locks)? I did not encounter this issue so I am not sure. My bolt came out ok, but I had to spread the boss that the shaft goes into so I could get the shaft out.

Yeah, and seems hard to get to. I figured that was the bolt, but having a heck of a time getting it off. If I lock the wheel, it should come off I hope. We'll see tomorrow. Thanks!

Poth, That sounds good. If you are simply having issues accessing the bolt, you can turn the wheel so the bolt is positioned good for loosening. That shaft is splined with a cammed side, so even when the bolt is out, you should not loose any reference points (the steering would turn normal). At that point, you can turn the wheels straight and remove the bolt completely.

Finally got it out...pain in the butt. Both bolts were so rusted on. Thanks for the help!
