Steering column bushing and bearing.

I replaced my steering column bearing and used the old bushing that seemed to be metal. The replacement bushing is plastic/nylon. Is it supposed to go inside the metal bushing or it replaces the the metal one all together? The reason I ask this is that I have seen plastic/nylon bushing disintegrate altogether due to time and wear. THANKS!!!

The factory used the steel cone, the service replacement is nylon.

Ok, the steel one still looks good. Which one is better? I would favor the steel.

I have used both, but I prefer the steel.
