I swapped to a Rack and Pinion steering setup in my 66 mustang. Since I cant use the stock column because the shaft and steering box are one piece...could I use one out of a 67-68 mustang? I can remove the steering box from those years and add a rag joint and intermediate shaft.

I know that a flaming river unit will fit, but I am attempting to avoid that cost...plus what it is going to cost me for adapters for a steering wheel and whatever else.

Let me know if what I have mentioned will fit/work.

You can get cut off the stock column and get a new internal shaft and bearing from Autoworks. That will save you some cash!

do you really want the "Death Spear" anyways? A good swap to do would be the 68 swap because that is when they moved to collapsable columns. although it may be too long for the rack and pinion. Can a sn95 shaft and column be used? they have the u-joint built in and If I built a custom column, I could also use the turn signal setup with a little modification to the turn signal housing.

I will have to measure to find the difference in length for the steering columns. A long column would actually be better to clear my motor mount.

Anyone have the difference in lengths between 66 and 68?
