The steering in my 89 feels kind of loose. Is there an easier way to tighten it up than replacing everything? It would just be nice to have that newer car tight steering feel.

I've seen this kit over at LRS. Seems like a good deal for all of that stuff, but it's still 249$

Do some diagnostics to narrow it down. Rag joints and tie rods are two large contributors to steering slop. But it takes about 5 minutes of testing (an assistant helps - someone to hose with the steering wheel) to narrow it down.

Good luck.

If it ends up being inner tie rod ends I would just swap out the rack for a new one.

I took my 93 in for an alignment and found that both inner tie rods were worn so I swapped the whole rack. I just got a rack from advance auto parts. It ended up being like $150 for the rack.

And check the rag joint like hissin said.
