went under the dash, didn't seem to be any/much play there, but when I get it back tonight or tommorow I am going to put a wrench on it and hold the shaft better to be sure.

Also getting an alignment done right now, so I'll be back to testing it on a good alignment.

I'm already above 6* on caster. Shortly I'll test the inside column, then also, AGR instructed me on how to tighten the pinion engagement. If that doesn't fly, I'll buy a new rack from summit and return this one.

What is their method for tightening the pinion engagement - just curious. I just installed their rack on my car and drove it for the first time last night. It definately reacts to your request. I definitely need to get used to it.

Technically, I've thrown a new rack, 2 steering shafts, 2 bumpsteer kits, 2 sets of rack bushings (one poly, one aluminum) at this problem now. Hopefully today I can make some more p rogress, but I ddefinately feel like

whats funny is that my 94 feels sloppy as s#!t but my 02 feels just like any other new car, tight and nice road feel, the suspension is roughly identical in both??? I have done 2 new racks, bumpsteer kit, poly bushings, 2 shafts...the only thing i have not done is change the steering colum, the power steering pump and the front control arms.

my steering wheel has alot of play in the column. i can rock the steering wheel up and down about 1/2". it doesn't do that side to side.

it still feels tight though as far the response from the wheels when i turn the steering wheel.

I'm joining the search for the loose steering wheel. I took my car to Belmar, NJ this past weekend and the car felt unsafe above 70 mph due to the slop. Every bump in the road would throw the car sideways. I'll be under the car and under the dash tonight trying to figure it out.

Keep us posted, I have an 03 cobra shaft on mine, and when i checked under the dash it seems that the u-jount by the steering wheel on the shaft is where it's coming from, it feels like it might not quite be tight enough but i guess the only way for me to find out os spring for the MM unit, when i hold the shaft and turn the wheel it has NO play, just seems somethings happening on the u-joint.

That's the first place I'm looking, under the dash. I found an old thread on here that pinpointed exactly where under the dash to look. I saved it to my favorties on my home computer and I'll be using it as a reference tonight. I'll you guys know what I find.

I had the same problem till I replaced the steering shaft. From the rack to inside the car. Only problem is Ford does not sell tehm for the 94-95 anymore. I got my from Mustang Parts Specialist it is from an 04 GT and now the sloppy steering is gone.

I've bought the MM solid shaft, it didn't do much for me in this situation.

I checked all 3 of the pinch bolts (2 interior, 1 exterior) and they were all tight, no play there, I can maybe hear some play in the steering column between the shaft and the wheel, so I ordered a used one off of ebay to tinker with.

I removed the airbag and checked the wheel itself for play, removed the bolt and retightened, and even with the bolt out, there was 0 play there (FR500 wheel, was a lot tighter on the column shaft than the original 95 GT wheel).

Under the dash, I could put a 1/2" wrench on the slender portion of the slip-shaft of the MM steering shaft to hold it still. Then I could detect little to no play, not enough to manifest itself when driving (so even if there is play in the column, its not enough to be noticed when driving). So much for that.

So its the steering rack, I can't decide to try the pinion adjustment AGR mentioned, or just purchase a new agr rack from summit and send mine back to AGR. If I could find a 03-04 cobra rack, I'd get it, but OEM racks are fetching $500 from the dealers and there's no guarantee on which rack you actually get.

Here's the thread http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=584744&highlight=steering+slop

I got under the dash last night and tighten the pinch bolt at the top of the shaft. The car is still up on jack stands but it seems to have reduced some, if not all, of the play in my wheel. Tomorrow I'll have it out on the road as I drive to the dealership to test drive some 07's. I'll let you guys know if it worked.

Back at the beginning of 06' they were going for under $200. I wish I had bought one then.
