steering wheel shimmy.

Hey guys, recently I've been noticing a steering wheel shimmy under braking. The wheel moves side to side about an inch each way at a pretty fast rate. I've been told it could be that I need front brakes, which is entirely possible at 35k miles on original brakes. When you let off the brakes, the the steering smooths itself out. Any thoughts on this?

Sounds like you need to get your rotors turned.

My dad had that problem with his pontiac and the cause of it was his warped front rotors, So yours could be warped (which means u gotta replace) or you can Turn your rotors and see if that fixes it

yup, as just said, your rotors are warped. its no big deal, just go anywhere and get them cut/turned/machined. you can even go to O'Reilly's Auto Parts and they'll cut em for you if you wanna save some $ and do the work yourself. when you cut the rotors, always replace the pads. if you put the same pads back on, you'll have warped rotors again in 5k miles.

Shimmy

I could be oversized tires and the ABS system. I have replaced everything but the spindles and mine still shimmies. When I say everything, I mean tires, rims, rotors, calipers, pads, struts, C/C plates, control arms, and hubs. The guys at Roush say it is my ABS. It is not that bad, and if I break hard enough it goes away. If anyone has anyother ideas, please chime in.

I have the stock sized tires, so I doubt if anything is messing with the ABS system. Hopefully cutting the rotors and getting new pads will solve the problem. Thanks for the advice guys!

Sounds like now is the time to upgrade my friend. Get bigger brakes and rotors . You'll need them down the road sooner or later.

I would say it is def the brakes, it happened to me on 3 different cars, the shuddering under braking. I wouldn't turn the rotors, cuz everytime I did that the shudder came back. Just get new rotors and pads, it's worth it. Plus, now, if you have the cash, you can go with an upgrade, or if not, then just get some cross drilled rotors.

your rotors are warped. By the way you describe it you will need new ones.
