I just purchased a 1989 Mustang GT convertible. When driving I get a squeaking noise out of the left front when turning left or braking. It pulls to the left slightly when braking. The rubber boot on the left side is also wet with grease. Is this a steering rack problem? Thanks

Could be....could be dust on your brake pads, could be a loose wheel bearing, could be a bad calliper, could be the dust shield rubbing on the rotor, could be a lot of things.

Lotta “could be’s”, huh?

The power steering boot is normally wet with fluid as they’re notorious for spitting power steering fluid past the seals when the steering wheel is turned without the pump spinning. You’re gonna have to just check all of those could be’s out to be sure.

i agree with GB. too many possibilities to diagnose from a keyboard.

clean up the leaks when you get down there to check everything out, and then monitor new moisture (is there grease on the boot, or power steering/ATF fluid)?

if in doubt, or thinking of getting an alignment anyhow, a reman'd or new rack is not a bad idea. (gonna need a new alignment anyhow when done with a rack swap).

good luck.
