I just bought a 1989 GT convertible. The front end makes a squeaking noise like it needs lubrication when braking or turning left. The rubber boot on the left side is wet with grease. Is this a steering rack problem? Trying to learn. Thanks.

The wet boot could be the power steering rack leaking, or it could be some other oil leak above the rack dripping down. In any event - you don't take chances with steering/brakes (think about it). I'd get the car into a competent front end shop and let them put it up on the rack with you.

Something's amiss - and you don't want a brake or steering related failure to occur. And since you've posted it here, there's a public record that you knew something was wrong with the car - so if something fails and you injure/damage someone/something else, you've got a liability issue. Time to get it fixed...
