alright, iv put in a few systems, and i know a little bit of what the terms mean, but what is all the ohm, and bridged, mono, impedence and all the terms that come with amps and subs, and such, iv always just went by watts, and so far its worked out, but i wanna get more into it and wanna know what all that means, if not yall can help, im sure some site has it all like a dictionary type thing, help me out, thanks

ohm-The unit of electric resistance and impedance. One ohm is the resistance value through which one volt will maintain a current of one ampere.

Bridging-Combining two outputs of an amplifier to use as one, usually to a woofer. The provides an increase in power output (wattage) necessary to reproduce lower frequencies at higher volume levels.

mono-A sound recorded or reproduced in only one channel, usually a bass amp is mono

impedqance-The opposition to the flow of alternating current (AC) in a circuit. Measured in ohms .

Yeah all the terminology can get confusing if you are just getting into car audio. If you ever need help with some terms, like ohm, impedance, then you may want to check out some physics sites online. The only good thing I can say about my physics class is that it helped me big time with understanding car audio.

I have a sort of relevant story, this kid super ricer was talking to me about his set up he told me a bunch of garbage and then he said he had 3 10's and 1 amp so i asked him "are you running those in paralle or in series" he replied with " nO there in a Box"
So sometimes the termanoligy can seperate someone who knows nothing and someone who wants to learn.

Have any of you guys actullly used an amp meter to see what your amps are actully putting out?

I havent tested my amp, which is a 2000 watt d class, but at my previous job,we were testing a 10,000 watt "sample" amp to see if we wanted to produce it,were able to get about 5500 watts at 4 ohms and 13.5 volts.I was kinda surprised as I have never done this, but was always to lazy to try it.

Yeah ive got 6 10's in an explorer with two US amps usa150 running @1.33 ohms. It sounds perfect but ive always wanted to test it but like you never get around to it. 10,000 watter putting out 5,500 RMS is bout on right? Who makes your 2000 watter.

My 2000 watt amp is a X-File,i know nobody has ever heard of them,i used to rep and do tech for them, and I have put them against JL,Fosgate,Memphis and other brands and they were equal to or better.

And the 10k watt amp was going to be built for Ample Audio, same thing as a Crossfire. The 5500 watts wasnt even close to what it should have done,it was stable down to 1 ohm and werent even giving it 14.4 volts or pushing it.It was mainly for DB drags and sound offs.

Ok me say ouchhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too much for this old man, now a nice 1500watt system... I know back when I first got into car audio I used to screw with all the local shops sales staff be talking BS and then I'd bust their heads. Oh you cann't go lower than 1ohm.... really come check this out. Of course this was back when SoundStream meant something and hardly nobody knew about the co.

Oh you are talking old times, now Soundstream is one of the more "affordable" brands out there.Orion set the low point at 1/2 ohm or I think there was one that went to 1/4 ohm.I recently finshed my buddies 2800 watt stereo in his HD and it sounds just as clear on a low volume as well as when its shaking the wipers.
