So i went in last week to get the stuff i needed to fix my burnt valve in the #8 cylinder. Of course i need a head gasket, apparently they have replaced the part #'s a few times in the last few years and amalgamated the Romeo and Windor gaskets (not sure they were different in the first place) but anyway a price of $251 PER GASKET is now the going rate
Even with the 20% discount i get from the parts guy that's still over 200/per. I couldn't believe they jacked them up that much! They used to be about 150 each, and i thought that was robbery! Needles to say i am getting a non-FOrd part at about 1/3 the price.

Anywho,no real reason for this post other than the interesting story.

Just buy a Ford Racing head change kit. The whole thing is 150 and you get the bolts and exhaust gaskets too.

Yeah I know about that. BUT what were you doing to burn it up.

I still say Russ needs a new fuel system. I say it is time for at least Cobra fuel pump and and bigger injectors. Then you wouldn't have an excuse for breaking you **** all the time.

I tell you what, when I will pick up some 60's and I will sell you my 42's.

150 bucks? from the dealership? I'll have to remember that.
I've found out that the main issue with the 2V's making 400 or more hp is a cooling issue at the #7 and #8 cylinder. Seems the coolant flow deadheads at the back of the left cylinder head and builds excessive heat. There's a part you can by from ford for about 40 or 50 bucks that replaces the freeze plug at the back of the head and allows the coolant to flow over to the return line, just to the right side of the intake manifold(actually a part used on all 03+ cobra's for the same issue). Should solve the heat problem. The last time the motor went down was for a burnt valve in the same cylinder,AND i pulled timing with the predator this time AND the nitrous nozzle is in a different position than last time so it shouldn't be a distibution problem either. I don't think it's a fuel issue,i've made enough dyno pulls with the nitrous to watch the a/f ratio and it stays dead rich the whole rpm curve, doesn't start to lean out above 4or 5000 rpm like an inadequate fuel system.

With that coolant mod, you also need a 3/4" Brass T fitting and some 5/8" heater hose to make it work.
