sticking selt belts

Morning gents!

Well, I thought my newly acquire Mustang was a pretty good deal for $7,000 but I'm having second thoughts about it already.

First, which is probably not a big deal, is an exhaust leak. The car has less than 52,000 miles on it and is already suffering from an irratating exhaust leak.

I spoke with the dealership that sold me the car and they are willing to repair and/or replace anything on the car that might be causing the leak - good. But now I'm having problems with the seat belts. They have just about stopped retracting.

Does anyone know how to remove the rear interior body panels to get access to the seat belt mechanism? I'm thinking they may need to be lubricated?

Ideas?

Oh, one more thing. Is there a way to confirm recalls have been taken care of on this vehicle?

Punch in the year,make and model and follow that with the letters TSB to find recalls and problems with your car.

Ok first of all the exhaust leak is something typical of 94-04 mustangs, at least on our 6's. If it is coming from the passenger side where the headers and catalytic converters then it was caused by the A/C which drips water onto the exhaust at exactly between the headers and cats. Needless to say i think we all know a bit of science, when u super cool metal and cool it too fast it cracks. So yea. So its nothing major if thats where it is and is most likley coming from and i can assure you of that.

The seatbelts are a known issue. Mine do that too.

Try pulling the seatbelt ALL the way out, make sure there aren't any folds or kinks, and then let it retract all the way back in. Make sure it's routed correctly through the roller on the pillar, and that the plastic cover on the roller isn't rubbing on it.
Also, it seems to work better if you don't route it through the plastic loop on the side of the seat. It tends to get turned around, or stuck in the slot in the side of the loop.

argh! the seat belt thing is so anoying ... they all suck, I haven't been in a 94 - 04, that hasn't had a problem with them.

Thanks for the replies on both concerns. Oh, and the exhaust leak is exactly as you described it to be GTA_V6_Mustang. Or at least that's what I remember from what the technician told me.

The seat belts are still causing me a headache. I tried pulling them all the way out but that didn't help much. What did help a bit was to by-pass the shoulder guide, just as you suggested Skymarshal.

Maybe if I have some time this weekend, I'll see if I can look into it a bit more. May have time to remove the rear interior panels.

There is a TSB for the seat belts, all they do is put some teflon tape on the slide hook.

I had that same problem during the summer and solved it that way. Then my sister drove it, and she messed it so bad that that won't work anymore.
