Sticky Mid-Grade Performance Tires?

Yeah... I need tires for my new rims (whenever I get around to buying them). Basically I'm looking for tires that are as sticky as possible for around 70 each at max (thats a really rough number, but you get the idea). Good brand would be sorta nice too. I can't afford drag radials, and the idea of spending more on a tire than the rim its mounted on is not an appetizing one, so no BFG KDW or Nitto DRs .

Kumho ESCTA Supra 712 are good choice... so are Sumitomo HRT Z II - they offer great dry traction. You can check them out at www.tirerack.com - they could fit in your price range.

Nitto had some GREAT tires out, i believe there more towards the $90 a piece range tho. Well worth a few extra bucks if u ask me. But those ecsta 712's are suppose good for the $$

Sears has BFG Radial TA's on sale, all the time, that will get you close to the $70, if you have just a little patience... Its a great tire!

I've heard by many, including peeps on this site and the reviews at tirerack that the Radial T/A is a somewhat overrated tire. But I am considering them nonetheless.

I was very pleased with my Nokia tires. They are excellent, allthough their expertise is winter tires.

Try Cooper's Cobra series radials. Or Hercules HP4000's ( these are the same tires as the Cobra's, just another brand by Cooper) Both these are American made and very affordable with great traction. I've run them for 25 years now on just about every vehicle I've owned.

Toyo and Khumo have decent tires in that range, BFG radial t/a's are great because they last a long time usually and are a decent price, but I think they are harder than you are looking for. I've got Yokohamas on one of my cars, they seem to stick pretty good and were about $265 for all four mounted at Discount Tire. Check the treadwear and temp ratings, discounttires.com has pretty good info and user ratings.

I have BFG tas and I have always thought they were a little hard. They last forever it seems, but not real sticky. I am looking at dunlopes and a few otheres. BTW, I am sure they have solved this problem, but about 10 years ago I was running cooper cobras on 2 of my cars. out of 5 sets of 4, 4 tires developed sidewall bubbles, tread seperation, or just plain came apart (at 50 mph no less). Was told by cooper that they are not responsible for it and since I had not purchased roadhazard they were not going to do anything...needless to say..I never bought another cooper tire again.

Maybe I missed it, but what size wheels are you planning on? The reason I ask is that we may make very different recommendations for a 14" or 15" than we would for a 16" or 17". In fact, if you are planning on 16s or 17s, you'd better plan on spending more like $100 or more per tire...

I had BFG Comp T/A ZR4s on my coupe before I went to Kumho Victoracers. Was never really happy with the T/As (although, to be fair, they were 4 season tires). I LOVE my Kumhos and, while these are race tires, I've heard great things about other Kumho tires (great value IMO).

if you could give the wheel size it would really help. Personally, I had always used BFG comp t/a hr4's on my stang. They didn't stick very well. I borrowed a set of fairly new radial t/a's from a buddy, they were horrible, made for a good smoke show though. I ended up getting a set of Falken ziex 512's after seeing how well they worked for a friend. It's my new favorite tire. They hook well on dry pavement, have good wet traction, and they look cool.

It seems like radial t/a's are more suited to the drivers who want a good sporty looking all season tire for their classic that will last a while. They don't offer much in the way of 'holeshot' traction if you know what I mean.

Yes I am. The cam is working out good. There was a big difference after I put it in. Too bad I have to take it all apart when I get home to find out what's clicking.

on that note, will 15x8s work on a 65-66? Just making sure, all they seem to have on ebay are 15x8s recently.

The only time I've ever had a tread separtion on a Hercules HP4000 was when I reversed the rotation of the tire ( swapping sides)after running it for more than a year or so. And most in not all the ones I've bought in the last 10 years were blems.

I have the euro BFG radial T/A's and yea, they don't stick too well. They seem very hard and don't wear very quickly. 15x8s will fit in the back of a 65-66, but I don't think they fit in the front. I run an 8" out back and a 7" up front.
