Here is what I am doing to stiffen the front subframe on my 70 Sportsroof. It's quick and easy and should provide significant torsional and beam stiffness. Some leftover 1 1/2" X .095 tubing and some 3/16" strap. It is all confined within the width of the subframe rails so does not intrude in the engine space.
