This thread has become worthless to this guy trying to get information on just simple bolt-ons and etc with 2000 bucks. The two of you guys who are rooting for the 5.4 swap, this guy who started the thread most likely can't do the work himself and doesn't have the sources or "hook ups" to complete the project at just a $2000 budget. Try to stay on topic, no offense to you guys.

Labor alone for a 5.4L swap will cost over $2K. If it was such a bang for the buck more ppl would've gone this route.

I'd just wait a little longer and save up for a Vortech.

5.4 swap is just plain ignorant! assuming the caris bone stock i would recomend gears, mid pipe and cat back and then some nitrous. that will make it a fun car.

yo man, check out some of the bolt-ons in my sig.....you'll be more than happy with the performance of your car with basic bolt-ons for now, then when summer comes around....slap a blower on her. the stuff i have in my sig will cost less than 2k...well, some of them will, im not saying you can get all these for under 2k...but most of them...good luck buddy.

Thanks for all the info. I am looking to do some of the work myself...but not the big jobs. I agree that the 5.4 swap sounds like a lot of work and there are other ideas on this board that could get me more power for my $$. Thanks again everyone

hang around enough, and it seems like every 2 years or so you see somebody try to brag about the 5.4 swap they have done. Ive seen it for years, and its the same old story, and then you see those that have no idea jump on the band wagon and act like they know what they are talking about.

Gears, headers, Timing adjuster.

Then spray it or put a blower on it.

actually i do know what i was talking about what makes you think that i am a complete dumbass... i have read, done my research, and talked to several guys that have done it... but please enlighten me and the rest who care to know why i am ingorant (or the swap), why you continually call me a newb, and why you keep on assuming that i know diddly **** about what i was talking about!

i stated my opinion on what he could do and you jumped down my throat for it...

but another good idea is the gears, exhaust, and better suspension.. that should make you happy

lol, just keep reading and doing your research. Its seems like you are on the right path. You've gained an extensive amount of knowledge, from what I can tell., maybe you can tell me to stfu again

Im done with this thread, as the others have said, the 5.4 is a waste of time, especially on an NA 2v.

BTW... a basic 5.4 swap with a tune normally yeilds 50hp/tq over a tuned NA 2v 4.6 even when hamstrung with adapter plates. Yeah...that's nothing huh.

Sure it does...

Your 5.4 2V N/A 5 spd car made 278 RWHP with ported heads, cams, exhaust on a Mustang Dyno. There are 4.6 2V cars making that and they don't have ported heads.

What a joke. Should I expect any less.

I have a stock 2000 Mustang GT with the 4.6 V8. What's the best way to get more horsepower out of the engine? My budget is $1000-$2000.

It's not urgent...I'm just looking for some ideas for a summer project. I'd like to know what you guys think. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would get gears, full exhaust, a tune and a set of cams if you are doing it yourself.

Please save your money towards a blower. If you shop right you can put an Sc on your car and make 370 to the wheel for a little less the 3600 dyno tuned

Vortech tuner kit order it with a 3.3" pulley 2500
Lightning mass air and 42lb injectors. 400
Power pipe 200
svt focus fuel pump 80
sct tuner and tune 400
-------------------------------------------------------------
3530 You just picked up 150 rear wheel hp and more to be had with more boost.

Or you can spend your 2k on bolt ons and pick 30-35 hp?

EDIT: just realized how old my sig was LOL

And a quick sidestep of the clutch will make the tires go up in smoke in 3rd gear, something the old 4.sick could never muster

A 5.4L swap to me is just plain too much time and money.... You're pretty much re-inventing the car.

You've already got a nice stock powerplant in your '00 4.6L... Just do bolt-ons, gears, and strap a supercharger on it, and you'll have yourself a pretty fast Mustang without breaking the bank.

too much money? I have less than a grand in EVERYTHING. re-inventing the car? You pull the 4.6 out, trim one of the headers, install the adapter plates and put the 5.4 in. Then you make one cut on the h-pipe and weld in a 2" section. DONE. Honestly if you can change a clutch then you can do a 5.4 swap in one of these cars, reinstalling the trans is the hardest part of the install.

Agreed, this swap isnt for most people but anyone that wants to add a buttload of torque or there 4.6 is tired and needs to come out, this is a very feasable option.
