The only mod is a PI intake. Stock exhaust and everything. Suspension wise the car is sitting on eibach sportlines but IMO doesn't make enough power to really make much difference :nonono:

A couple weeks ago I ran the car and it was 76 degrees when I made the first pass of the evening and it went [email protected] with a 2.137 60'. Tires were at 32 psi so I kinda took it easy to feel the track out and I'm still not used to this car as I just got it recently. Anyway next pass I had planned to drive it harder. I launched and ran first gear out went to shift into second and the motor just reved so I put it in 3rd after trying second once more and drove normal down the track. Got on the return road put it in first went to slow shift into second and nothing, shift to 3rd and nothing, same goes for the rest of the gears. The only functional gear is now first, even reverse is gone and no neutral with the car running and clutch disegaged. if the trans is in neutral and you release the clutch the car takes off as if it's in first. The trans always shifted fine but couldn't be power shifted as it is the original t45 with 150k miles and i've read enough horror stories so it was bound to happen. I think a shift fork is broken but have been on other projects lately. howver the car is in the air with exhaust off waiting for the trans to come out.

Anybody think 13.9 is possible with catback and o/r x-pipe and dr's and driving the car in cool weather? The car also has factory 3.27's which is a plus. I'd like to hear some thoughts on either hte tranny so maybe I have an idea of what to expect when it comes out or does the et/mph seem okay? The 2v is a new motor to me so i'm still trying to do some homework and see what they run on average.

It doesn't really sound like a shift fork to me. In my experience, you'll loose 2 gears when a shift fork breaks... you could loose 1&2, 3&4 or 5&R, depending on which fork broke. You can try taking apart the shifter, hoping it was something external to the transmission, but I'm guessing the tranny will have to be yanked and torn down.

As for your times... in ideal weather, my 97 GT ran 14.27 @ 96mph, with a kinda poor 2.1 60' time. That was with just an off road H pipe.. so all season tires, paper filter, 3.27 gears, ect. I did do a few small track tricks, like power shifting, increasing the pressure on the front tires, and removing the extra junk, and spare tire.

I always felt like with a good set of tires, I could knock down a 13.99 in similar weather because I was spinning quite a bit in the 60'. I eventually gave it a try after borrowing the nitto DRs from my 88 mustang, but that just proved that my clutch is soggy... the clutch slipped quite a bit in the 60', giving me similar 60' times, and slipped a bit longer on each gear change, giving me more mid 14s passes.

Hopefully, Winters will chime in. I know he hit the track hard with stock combinations as well, but I think his car was stuck with even worse 2.97 gears.

It doesn't sound like a shift fork is bent.Although like Bhuff30 said
it is possible that one of your shift forks is broken it could be any 1st,2nd,
3rd,4th,5th,or reverse. You will never really know until you take out
your T-45 and rip it apart. If you are on the stock clutch your clutch
could have possibly failed too.Let us know what you fined when you
inspect the internals in your T-45 transmission.Possibly expect to
have to replace your original T-45 transmission though.Mine lasted
until 69K miles before it blew up at the track during a powershift. The
transmission case was full of little peices of metal. Also if you hit the
track alot plan on getting a good clutch like a Centerforce clutch.
When I ran my car at the track when it was pretty much bone stock with only a drop in K&N air filter and a Flowmaster catback.I ran 14.7's and
14.8's @ 89-92 mph with a 2.0-2.2 60 foot times.When I made my best
passes when my car was stock I was running on street tires with minor
weight reduction and the stock 3.27's in 98 degree humidity.
Going to the track with good weather conditions and cool weather is key
to getting your best times.Winter's had stock 2.73's I do belive Bhuff30.
Although at the track practice makes perfect.

Why the hell are you "TTT"ing a thread that is a few hours old and only a few post from the top? Seriously, stop post whoring.

OP, here is my ET progress with the horrible stock 2.73 gears. I'm sure that 3.73's or 4.10's would have really helped out.

So you would see this thread hoping you would post your experiences
at the track with your 97 GT as you have some pretty impressive times
with that car.
Theirs still is no justified reason for you to be a prick and a jerk to me Mark.

Thanks for the insight. I've always been one to try and get the most out of the cars with the least mods possible so this gives me some hope. Incase you couldn't tell in my sig. i'm not new to drag racing or mustangs for that matter...just new to the 2v.

Anyway, I bought this car as another daily driver for a price that couldn't be passed up. I did the PI intake because the stock one was cracked amungst a couple other issues the car had...hence the reason I picked the car up for so cheap. New FRPP plugs, wires, and fuel filter were all installed since who knew how mnay miles the old ones had. I did pick up a set of PI heads and cams which are sitting under the work bench but i'm still debaiting the install. The last tank it got 380 miles to the tank and 13.50 gallons when I filled it up so i really don't want to compromise that too much, and with that said the 3.27's are staying! lol

BTW, I posted this on another forum a couple weeks ago with hardly any replies....now I remember why I have stayed all these years.

Mine ran low 15s at about 90 with nothing more than the PI intake and a K&N drop-in. This was through the auto and with bad weather. So I suspect that the 5 speed and good weather would get you mid-high 14s at best.

If you want to go faster, but don't want to lose the fuel mileage, go ahead and put an offroad mid-pipe on. That was the biggest performance difference I have noticed yet on my car (well, minus the blower :D).

mine went 14.20 with a pi intake mickey dr's and 4.10's and x pipe. at 98mph

now with ported pi's/windsor cams and nothing else than a better clutch, it went 13.80 at 104mph with a 2.4ish 60 ft. with a good tire and an actual tune to move the limiter off 6k, i have a strong feeling it will do high 12's..

basically if you want to really kill some et get a set of 4.10's and shift it..
